What is the minimum age requirement to play soccer?

In order to meet the minimum age requirement for our U6 program, players must be 5 years of age by September 1 of the applicable school year.  For the 2010-11 school year, players must be 5 years old by September 1, 2010.  This applies to both the fall 2010 and the spring 2011 seasons.  The age group specifications do not change between the fall and spring seasons.

Exceptions are made for players who are within 6 months of the minimum age requirement (5 years old by March 1, 2011), if and only if parents agree to head coach their child's team.

My child has never played soccer, but wants to give it a try.  Many of the other kids have been playing for years.  Will he/she be OK?

Yes.  We have many new players in each age group each year, especially in the U6, U8 and U10 age groups.  If your child is somewhat athletic, he/she will quickly be able to contribute to recreational teams older than U10.  Children, especially those that are coordinated and like a high level of physical activity, will quickly develop the skills necessary to fit right in.

What is offered for recreational players once they are too old for the in-house program?

PRSC maintains a strong recreational travel program for boys and girls ages U11 through U19.  Our recreational travel teams roster players of varying abilities and they compete against other local clubs including Hampton, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel, North Allegheny, etc.  Home games are played at Pine Park and Pine-Richland High School.  Note that recreational travel games are played on Sundays (typically between 12 and 6 pm).

When are the spring and fall seasons?

Typically, the spring season starts the week of April 1 and ends during the first or second weekend of June.  The fall season begins during the last week of August and runs through the last weekend of October.

Will I receive confirmation of receipt of my mail-in registration form?

No. We do not confirm receipt of mail-in registration forms.

How can I be sure my child was placed on a team?

If you registered on-site or mailed-in the registration form by the postmark deadline specified, your child is guaranteed team placement.  Players whose forms are postmarked after the deadline posted will be placed on the waiting list and assigned to teams as needed to complete rosters.

Each age group has a maximum number of players permitted to ensure appropriate team size and playing time.  Many, but not all players who register late are placed on teams.

When are the players contacted by their coaches?

Once registration closes, the PRSC volunteers work to identify and recruit coaches and assemble the teams for the season.  This is a time intensive process and your patience during this period is appreciated.  The kick-off meeting for the season, the "Coaches Meeting", usually occurs about 2 weeks before the beginning of each season, in mid-March and mid-August.  At this time the coaches are given their rosters and can finalize their practice schedules.  You can expect to hear from your coach shortly after that meeting.  At the latest, you should hear one week before the season start date.
