The following guidance applies for those
13 and older interested in full USSF Certification to referee travel games. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the Club and youth soccer in the area. We are in short supply of referees - both younger referees and adults.
STEP 1 - OBTAIN YOUR CLEARANCES AND SAFESPORT CERTIFICATION
To become a certified referee, the first step is obtaining your required clearances. For a full list of clearances required and the links to obtain them, please visit the PA West "Become a Referee" Page here:
https://www.pawest-soccer.org/become-a-referee/ STEP 2 - REGISTER FOR A CERTIFICATION COURSE
After gathering your clearances and SafeSport certification you'll need to visit the Official Management System (OMS) to register to take a certification course. Select New Member Registration after you Click
Here. Please note the online course takes multiple hours to complete, and there is a mandatory on-field training course required once the online training is complete.
STEP 3 - GEAR UP!
All Western PA referees are expected to act and to look professional. You will need to obtain a referee uniform and should begin with a yellow USSF shirt, all-black shorts with pockets (NOT player shorts), two-striped black socks and black shoes (do not have to be turf or cleated, that’s your decision). You will need a watch with count-down/up timer, whistle and yellow/red card (the card “wallet” is not required). Links to available online vendors are included
Here.
STEP 4 - CONTACT OUR ASSIGNOR, MARC REPPERMUND, TO BE ADDED TO THE ASSIGNING APP, UPDATE YOUR AVAILABILITY, AND HAVE FUN!
Once you complete the certification process, please email our Referee Coordinator, Marc Reppermund (
[email protected]), who can guide you through the process of joining the assigning app (Horizon Web) to note your availability and receive assignments.
Marc has offered to answer any questions your or your child may have on the USSF certification process.
